Maximum-Cover Source-Location Problems

چکیده
Given a graph G = (V, E), a set of vertices S ⊆ V covers v ∈ V if the edge connectivity between S and v is at least a given number k. Vertices in S are called sources. The source location problem is a problem of finding a minimum-size source set covering all vertices of a given graph. This paper presents a new variation of the problem, called maximum-cover source-location problem, which finds a source set S with a given size p, maximizing the sum of the weight of vertices covered by S . It presents an O(np + m + n log n)-time algorithm for k = 2, where n = |V | and m = |E|. Especially it runs linear time if G is connected. This algorithm uses a subroutine for finding a subtree with the maximum weight among p-leaf trees of a given vertex-weighted tree. For the problem we give a greedy-based linear-time algorithm, which is an extension of the linear-time algorithm for finding a longest path of a given tree presented by E. W. Dijkstra around 1960. Moreover, we show some polynomial solvable cases, e.g., a given graph is a tree or (k−1)-edge-connected, and NP-hard cases, e.g., a vertexcost function is given or G is a digraph. key words: graph, edge-connectivity, location problem, polynomial-time algorithm, NP-hard

Hub location problem is one of the new issues in location problems. This kind of location problem is widely used in many transportation and telecommunication networks. Hubs are facilities that serve as transshipment and switching point to consolidate flows at certain locations for transportation, airline and postal systems so they are vital elements of such these networks. The location and numb...
متن کاملImpact of Locality on Location Aware Unit Disk Graphs
Due to their importance for studies oi wireless networks, recent years have seen a surge of activity on the design of local algorithms for the solution of a variety of network tasks. We study the behaviour of algorithms with very low localities. Despite of this restriction we propose local constant ratio approximation algorithms for solving minimum dominating and connected dominating set, maxim...
متن کاملInverse and Reverse 2-facility Location Problems with Equality Measures on a Network
In this paper we consider the inverse and reverse network facility location problems with considering the equity on servers. The inverse facility location with equality measure deals with modifying the weights of vertices with minimum cost, such that the difference between the maximum and minimum weights of clients allocated to the given facilities is minimized. On the other hand, the reverse c...
متن کاملApproximating Minimum Cost Source Location Problems with Local Vertex-Connectivity Demands
The source location problem is a problem of computing a minimum cost source set in an undirected graph so that the connectivity between the source set and a vertex is at least the demand of the vertex. In this paper, the connectivity between a source set S and a vertex v is defined as the maximum number of paths between v and S no two of which have common vertex except v. We propose an O(d∗ log...
متن کاملThe Generalized Subgraph Problem: Complexity, Approximability and Polyhedra
This paper is concerned with a problem on networks which we call the Generalized Subgraph Problem (GSP). The GSP is defined on an undirected graph where the vertex set is partitioned into clusters. The task is to find a subgraph which touches at most one vertex in each cluster so as to maximize the sum of vertex and edge weights. The GSP is a relaxation of several important problems of a ‘gener...
